Marolyn was first elected as Mayor of the Town of Caledon in November 2003. She brought with her the experience and knowledge she gained while serving as Ward 2 Regional Councillor for three consecutive terms and serving as a Peel Board of Education Trustee for two consecutive terms.
As Mayor, Marolyn has taken a proactive approach in protecting Caledon's Greenest Town accreditation, advocating on behalf of the agricultural community while making significant improvements to the Town's daily operations. Under her leadership, Town departments where realigned to better serve customers. Two new positions were created; the Economic Development and Communications Manager to increase employment opportunities in the Town and the Environmental Progress Officer to continue to move in an environmentally responsible direction and to coordinate environmental actions throughout the Town. Most excitingly, the Town has now positioned itself to be debt free in 2006.
In 2004 Marolyn founded the Greater Toronto Countryside Mayor's Alliance to establish a strong rural voice on Provincial matters directly affecting these areas. Currently, she is working with her colleagues on the Greater Toronto Area Mayor's and Chairs to carry out a summit on gang, gun and youth violence in hopes to find some long term solutions.
Dangerous and aggressive driving is an issue that Marolyn works hard to minimize throughout Ontario and Canada. As a founder and Chair of
ROAD WATCH CANADA she actively promotes this program as a means to target this harmful behavior. She was the guest speaker at both the Ontario Strategy Institutes Summit and the Canadian Strategy Institute on Transportation to promote ROAD WATCH and share Caledon's transportation challenges and solutions. In recognition of these efforts, Marolyn was awarded the Ontario Provincial Police Commissioners Citation; the 2002 Ontario Crime Control Commission Award of Excellence; and the 2003 Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal.
